“Hi everyone at Redbank,

I just thought I would let you know that yesterday I opened a 1992 Cabernet.

I originally bought the wine at your cellar door back in 1994 (Cup Weekend).

The recommended cellaring was 16-18yrs, so 2010 was the time to drink the wine.

I have to tell you it was sensational!

The wine had a very slight brown tinge with a dark red colour.

I decanted the wine and found very little sediment at all.

The wine had lost none of its aroma and flavour was very well balanced with a hint of tannin still there.

I was lucky enough to only share the bottle with one other person…as I always prefer to share it with someone for the enjoyment and another opinion.

If the same winemaker is still there (or you know how to contact the person), please pass on my compliments.

I still have a 1992 Sally’s Paddock magnum and 2003 Sally’s Paddock.”

Fishing off Red Bridge

Beautiful weather at Redbank whilst waiting for the grapes to ripen.

This powerful wine has a clear Ruby Violet colour with a tinge of purple. Distinctive legs as usual.

The fresh berry aromas have a definite cigar box background with some Rose and Violet floral notes. Some lifted spice and cherry aromas are evident as well.

Definite, balanced and fine palate, fresh and tasting of berries but overall wine flavoured. Subtle and complex new wood flavours are well integrated. Some dark cherry flavours on the front palate. The middle palate is “wine” all the way with lingering complex savoury flavours but more fresh fruit characters than the previous vintages. Fine grained natural tannins. Very long soft clean finish with hints of spices and a lovely aftertaste. This wine is deceptively soft, as usual with Sally’s Paddocks at this stage, and will mature beautifully for at least 20 years.

We have released it a month late because the fabulous Spring season has involved a lot more vineyard work. The seasonal tasks of dis-budding, slashing and cultivating were much diminished during the drought, and now the seasons seem to have returned to normal, we are remembering what the full work load was like!

We are very happy to been given a “Distinguished” rating in the Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine for the 5^th Time. (Now 20 years on). This places Sally’s Paddock as one of the top 123 wines, and one of the top 15 Cabernet Blends in Australia. Click here for more information.

On Sunday 31st at the Pyrenees Escapade  everyone had a great day sampling wines and food from the region.  We are very hopeful that numbers will increase over the years (as long as the weather is kind!).

On Monday 1st Neill hosted a retrospective tasting of Sally’s Paddock wines from 1998 to 2008 with a very special 1988 Redbank Cabernet.  Twenty dollars paid for the tasting and a yummy barbeque lunch which was cooked by Achim Herterich!

Then Tuesday bought around Celebrations for the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup, in order to help celebrate the Sally’s Paddock Picnic was held at the Avoca Shire Turf Club, which was a “phantom” race meet.  There was heaps of activities for the kids with jumping castles, clowns and horse and cart rides!
